Catty Talk about Princesses

Spoken behind fans at several parties in London on the 11th of April 1676.

"They say one of the Princesses is pregnant."

"Noooo.. who? and more importantly from whom?"

"I don't know. One of the Germans most likely. Don't they look fat to you? No fashion sense."

"I thought it might have been the Savoyard. She looks so innocent, but don't the worst harlots always seem angelic? Her aunt certainly goes around after all.

Well, my husband remarked the other day that the von der Palfz girl won't do. Her father is a bigamist you know."

"Tsk. These Germans think they get away with everything, don't they? The Austrian Archduchess had a Jesuit tutor. If she makes it to the throne we will back to Bloody Mary, with the Jesuits killing English babies."

"My word. Hardly less barbaric than the Russians. They are drunk every night. Fit right in here, they do. Pity for the little tsarina wanna be though that there is such bad blood in the family. They have locked away her younger brother in a summer palace in the countryside, out of the public eye. Quite mad, with violent outbreaks they say.

"Yes, their support for the Austrian seems to lack a bit of spirit, wouldn't you agree? I think they have their own secret candidate that they are negotiating for. Always sneaky in backroom dealings those black coloured diplomats."

"ah, like the Dutch then. I heard that Lady Mary had such a screaming fit because she refuses to marry her cousin Prince William of Orange that they are now considering marrying off a female cousin of William to the King instead. All very hush hush you understand. My husband knows these things."

On Saturday April 18th, the Princess of Denmark and a majority of the candidates from German states left London. It is said that they had private meetings with King Charles on Friday to say their farewells.

Many other princesses are said to be readying ther departures, including the Hapsburg and Russian candidates. Speculation is that they have left because they have determined that they are not likely to be chosen.
