Salacia & Gabriel
"Indeed," she murmured when her companion spoke of questions unanswered, though she was thinking of the greater concerns of the world, not the mysteries of the masque!
She was quick to assure him of one fact: "There is nothing to forgive, my angelic friend. You had no way of discerning my disability." Her soft tone was warm and cheerful, despite the topic.
At the mention of the others: "Oh, perhaps she is Iris? How exciting! I did not think that mythology would be so popular! It seems that you are much more creative than the rest of us," she praised him with a smile.
Gabriel, Zephyrus, Iris, Lavinia, Salacia
At her companion's thoughtful introduction, Salacia inclined her head. "I am most pleased to meet you both," she said warmly in response to Iris' greeting.
She was not certain if the the mythological couple were also one when they were not wearing masks, but was not quite sure how to ask. It seemed like cheating to enquire, even playfully, so she said nothing…which proved to be the right course, as a moment later Zephyrus answered her unspoken question!
At his mention of the bond between wind and sea, she laughed lightly. "Indeed, I believe we are well-suited...provided you keep your jealousy in check!" she teased, referring to the god's well-known rivalry with Apollon.
It was such a pleasure to hear Lavinia's voice again, though is made Salacia a bit sad to know they were fated to be apart, for the time being. Still, she was determined that it would not upset her too much. They would both have lovely evenings, no doubt. This would be a challenge, but a good one!
The lifeguard interrupts…
Salacia was upset to hear that Gabriel would be forced to part from her so soon, for she was not quite sure how she would manage now! Except those thoughts were put on hold as the angel took offence quite loudly. Aware that she was now inadvertently in the limelight, being attached to his arm, Salacia blushed beneath her mask and lowered her head a little, as if to try to make herself invisible. She was an obedient girl who would not think of challenging authority without very good reason, so she opened her mouth to play the peacemaker…but then another man approached, speaking German first and then English.
Gabriel, Zephyrus, Iris, Lavinia, Midnight, Salacia
The proximity of the newest gentleman and the way his voice travelled told Salacia that he was speaking to her. She smelled the wine and understood enough to realise he was offering her a glass. "Danke, mein Herr1," she said, using very basic knowledge of German for that little tidbit. "But I am quite content at the moment."
In reality, she was not prepared to pick a glass up, not knowing how far it was filled, lest she spill it all over her pretty dress. Ah, but how could she tell him that? Perhaps Gabriel might help her? If he would pass her to the gentleman, then she might explain without having to speak to so many ears…
Ah, but now it was time to be a diplomat regarding Gabriel's umbrage. She was not certain if it would help or if it might in fact make him upset, but she had to try. Hopefully her amiable, light tones would inspire some calm in him. "I suppose we are a bit like cattle in pens," she observed with a note of amusement, "but I think the 'theme' of this season is that of various games, and by virtue of enjoying the hospitality of Windsor we have agreed to the unseen rules of these pastimes. It is perhaps not ideal to be restricted, but to have yet another mystery to solve is somewhat intriguing, no?"
1. Thank you, my Lord.
