Darlene took a pause in her morning correspondence at that point, discovering a need to send her maid to the kitchens. Maisie took an age to return, confessing her shyness of asking for the round of cheese Darlene had sent her for, and instead bore a half dozen cheese topped scones to her mistress. "Oh lovely." the Vicountess sat in the spot of sun near the window, picking the browned cheese off the tops of the scones to happily nibble the tastiness.
The next note bore a greasy fingerprint.
Dear Lady Gwendolyn,
It's a veritable convention! Do join us at the
archery contest this afternoon, whether you
think to compete or not. I should think that if
you do compete you shall do quite well. Although
not as well as Lady Lismire and Lady Alyth of course.
Ah yes, that is a challenge!
Hope to see you there,
God Bless
Lady Darlene
Having written to everyone she could think of, Darlene thought to have a little nap with the rest of her morning, intent upon thinking happy thoughts - she wanted to have a beautiful baby, and everyone knew that all depended upon the mothers wisdom in attending to her mental state. As she laid her head on her pillow, she thought fond thoughts of Thomas, galloping across the fields with the King. Probably the King would want to knight him soon. 'Sir Thomas', that had a lovely ring to it. She fancied his being knighted, and slipped to sleep with a smile upon her face.
