Background
Ravaged by the Thirty Years’ War, Ferdinand Maria inherited the electorship of Bavaria in 1651, and set about rebuilding the small nation. He set a policy, despite being a minor upon his succession, of encouraging agriculture and industry. He also restored and had built many monasteries and churches.
