Our new season is now open: Spring 1677 !
Character Death
Age of Intrigue is not a Free Form game. We believe in the Rules of Realism including IC consequences for IC actions. We maintain that our characters are heroes and therefore have far less chance of death than is historically correct, however it is part of our game. It is the risk of death, and the sense of success merely from continued survival, that adds a vital extra tension to our game.
A character is not going to suddenly die without good cause or reason. We have elected to safeguard you from situations that you as a player cannot influence. You will be given several options and opportunities to retreat from a potentially fatal situation. Character death is a brave choice which players risk because the end result may be worth it.
The base chance of death in a fatal scene depends on the situation and how much choice your character had when entering the storyline. So, you are more likely to die from jumping in the middle of fight or duelling your opponent than you are from childbirth. We will also apply modifiers increasing or decreasing your chances of success (such as your characters general health, talents, access to healthcare, age etc.) which will basically translate the IC logic of story elements into something that the mods can consider objectively while remaining neutral to all concerned.
The moderators are with you every step of the way. We will inform you OOC if you run the risk of character death and discuss options and alternatives with you. When death does come calling we will ensure that it is an experience worth writing about.
To prevent abuse there can be no PC death without the coordination of a Moderator. Killing off your old character so you can create a new one is considered bad form. If your PC plans to kill another PC by open duel or secret assassination, you must advise a moderator beforehand.
