Cotton is a soft fiber used most often in clothing, gathered from around the seeds of the Gossypium sp. shrub. The plant grows in India, in the East Indies, and also in the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa and the New World. The fibers are spun into thread and woven into a light, breathable cloth.
