Gathering Information
|
Daily Life at Court | |
Gathering information, learning secrets, is an important part of playing the game of intrigue, finding opportunities to get ahead of the rest. Because of this we urge you to remember to separate IC and OOC. Just because you've already learned about a secret by reading other people's stories, it doesn't follow your character has access to that information. There are a number of ways that you can find information that you may use.

Assumption of Knowledge
If the case is not obvious please check in your compendium if you can assume the knowledge or not. For instance your character might know:
- the background of NPC's known to your PC
- the whispers in the circle forum
- what is written in the various newspapers
- the public profile information of other PC's (including reputations)
Seeking Knowledge
Your character can seek out knowledge IC in a direct manner. There are various ways to do this:
- talking to PCs
- talking to NPCs
- reading books in the royal library
- digging into city records
- writing letters
Employing Helpers
You may wish to order your manservant or maid to seek out information. This implies that the servant will then not be able to perform his normal tasks and success will be limited to the capabilities of a servant.
Alternatively you can hire somebody. The better access you have to talented people, or the more you are willing to pay, the better and more detailed will be the information you gain from your spies.
In both cases reports can be handed in a Summary RP thread in the Mail forum, or given to you in your compendium. Whatever the method you use, you cannot assume the success of your employee.
