In the Baroque period, vocal and instrumental music were closely related, one often imitating the other. However, Baroque era singing was noted for its clarity, purity and transparency of sound and detailed articulation and carefully stress nuances within phrases. However, the most important of all was the expressive communication of the emotions which were the chief preoccupation of baroque composers.
