Why am I not allowed to play a historical character?
Q. Why am I not allowed to play a historical character, or be a child or sibling to a historical character?
A. We prefer original characters in our game as it levels the playing field. Age of Intrigue is about roleplaying, not about who can do the best historical research on a character, which often ends up being about finding the most advantages based on historic reality (titles, estates, privileges, family connections). AoI has its own reality, so that such historical research would unbalance what we have created for our setting.
That doesn't mean there are no historical (or you could say canon) characters in our game or that you can't interact with them, even marry them. On the contrary, the setting is filled with them. However they are the realm of moderators, offering them as NPCs. Likewise we otherwise encourage historical research as a way to enjoy the game, just not in a way as to benefit a character unduly.
