Background

William was the grandson of William Seymour I, and inherited his title through his father, Henry Seymour, Lord Beauchamp, who predeceased him. He died without issue on 12 December 1671, and his title passed to his cousin once removed, Francis Seymour, who became the 4th Duke of Somerset.*
